To survive, orphaned Raju, along with four elephants, must perform on street corners. The backstory is that as an orphan, they saved his life from a leopard. He eventually succeeds and establishes Pyar Ki Duniya (The World of Love), a zoo where numerous wild creatures live alongside his elephants, Ramu being the most close to him. He gradually amasses a fortune and is able to create his own private zoo, which houses tigers, lions, bears, and, of course, four elephants.
He treats all animals as if they were pals. He meets Tanu, and they fall in love. Ratanlal, Tanu's wealthy father, is initially opposed to the alliance, but eventually relents and allows the young couple to marry. Tanu, on the other hand, feels neglected, and trouble arises shortly thereafter. When their child is born, Tanu warns Raju that he must choose between the elephants and his family because she is afraid the elephants may harm her child physically. When Raju chooses his longstanding buddies above wife and son, Ramu decides to bring the separated couple together; however, to save the family and the child from the wicked Sarwan Kumar, he gives his life.
Haathi Mere Saathi (The creatures Are My Friends) is a 1971 Indian Hindi-language dramatic film directed by M. A. Thirumugam. The script was written by Salim-Javed (Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar) and dialogues by Inder Raj Anand. The film has a Disney-like charm with an Indian touch.
Haathi Mere Saathi was the biggest box office hit of 1971, as well as a critical success. Rajesh Khanna and Tanuja co-star in the film.At the time, the film was the most successful Hindi film produced by a South Indian producer. Sandow M. M. A. Chinnappa Thevar, a Tamil-born producer who owns Devar Films in Tamil Nadu, wrote the story. Thevar also had a minor cameo in the film. M.A. Thirumugham, Thevar's brother, directed and edited the film, which included music by Laxmikant-Pyarelal and lyrics by Anand Bakshi.
The film was also the first collaboration between Salim-Javed (Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar), who were formally credited as screenwriters. The film is based on Sandow M. M. A. Chinnappa Thevar's 1967 Tamil film Deiva Cheyal. Following the popularity of this film, Thevar remade it in Tamil in 1972 as Nalla Neram. This film is considered among the 17 straight hit films of Rajesh Khanna between 1969 and 1971, by adding the two heroes. |
