The truck driver Ajit Singh (Dharmendra), who is uneducated, finds out from his dying adoptive mother that he is the last living son of an honest police officer who was assassinated and his entire family destroyed by the notorious criminal Bharat Thakur (Ajit).
Consequently, he vows to exact retribution.
He encounters severely injured policeman Inspector D'Souza (Satyen Kappu), who loses his life defending his ammo cache from neighbourhood dacoits, while travelling to Dinapur, the dacoit's lair. Inspector D'Souza leaves the firearms to Ajit Singh before passing away from his wounds. He was travelling to the village of Dinapur to establish a police station with his men and the ammunition.
Ajit Singh poses as a police officer using this newly discovered cache of machine weapons and explosives.
The fierce and attractive rural belle Radha (Hema Malini), who is the niece of the notorious dacoit Bharat Thakur but despises his ways and backs Ajit Singh, is Ajit's love interest. Being a crafty individual, Bharat Thakur arranges for his man, the inebriated villager Chandi (Keshto Mukherjee), to be a spy within the village police station network.
The remainder of the movie centres on Ajit Singh's battle with Bharat, and how he seeks retribution in order to fulfil his Pratigya (Promise).
Action comedy Pratiggya (translates to "The Vow") is an Indian film from 1975. The film is directed by Dulal Guha and is produced by Dharmendra and B. S. Deol. Laxmikant-Pyarelal composed the melody, and Anand Bakshi wrote the lyrics. Starring are Dharmendra, Keshto Mukherjee, Jagdeep, Mukri, Mehar Mittal, Ajit, Hema Malini, and Johnny Walker.
