Rich businessman Rajnesh Mathur is the father of two girls. Roma, the older, has always been pampered and fiercely competitive. Reema is shy and beautiful, and she generally lets Roma steal the show. At the beginning of the movie, Reema takes first place in a school competition, while Roma comes in second. Reema gives Roma her award because she refuses to accept the second one. Both of them become quite different adults. Even though she has admired Ravi Saxena (Jackie Shroff) through his writings, Reema (Juhi Chawla) falls in love with him the moment she meets him at a bookstore.
Later, Ravi makes the decision to purchase some paintings; however,
Roma (Amrita Singh) has all of his favourite paintings for sale, so he purchases one while she is admiring it. She then gives him permission to purchase it, but he returns the artwork, which Roma eventually purchases. Ravi is given her business card by the proprietor of the painting studio. After giving it some thought, he decides to give the number a call, but he is too bashful, so his brother phones and lets Ravi know that she is at an auction house. Roma is losing to Ravi in the auction for a mirror, washbasin, toilet and bathtub.
The following day, Ravi leaves her house with all she won from her bid.
Ravi places his phone number on the mirror and sends everything she was bidding on to her house the following day. She suggests they meet in a café. When Roma questions why Ravi is always behind her, he tells her he loves her. She receives some flowers and a letter. But when they reconvene at a café, a modelling agency approaches Roma and requests that he shoot some pictures for a magazine cover. Once they take the pictures, Ravi asks her to marry him and makes a proposal. She accepts. She prefers that he first ask her relatives. Rajnesh gets Reema ready, assuming that Ravi is going to propose to her.
