Bollywood comedy Chori Mera Kaam (literally, Stealing is my Job) was written by K. A. Narayan, directed by Brij Sadanah, and produced by Chander Sadanah in 1975. Starring in the movie are Raza Murad, Iftekhar, Zeenat Aman, Ashok Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, and Pran. Kalyanji-Anandji composed the soundtrack for the movie. For the movie, Deven Verma received his first Filmfare Award for Best Comedian.

Young Bhola Nath is a thief, robber, and small-time criminal who operates alongside Sharmii, his previous girlfriend, and a female accomplice. Unbeknownst to Bhola, he is the illegitimate son of policeman Kumar, who has been pursuing a mysterious mobster called Amanarchard Rathore, whom Kumar had 20 years earlier imprisoned but who has since been released from prison and is back on the streets. When Bhola was a small child, Amanarchard's goons kidnapped him. However, he managed to escape and was raised by a seasoned thief by the name of "Mr. John," while Lt. Kumar, his wife, and their other son had long since come to believe that their other son had passed away.

During one of their heist excursions, Bhola and Sharmii come discover a manuscript for a book titled "Chori Mera Kaam" that belonged to Mr. John's previous accomplice. They sell it to a dubious publisher named Parvin Bhai, and it goes on to become a national best seller. However, the original author, the local mob, and the police all take an unwelcome interest in it.

Amarchand Rathore, a well-known mobster and smuggler, is apprehended by the honourable and industrious Police Inspector Samadh Kumar and is being held for trial. Amarchand's goons kidnap Kumar's son in revenge and demand a payment for him. Refusing to comply with their demands, Kumar testifies in court against Amarchand and receives a hefty prison sentence. As the years pass, Kumar raises his second son, Shyam, and gets him accepted into the police department. Bholanath, the older son of Kumar, has fallen into bad company. He lives with John, a professional thief, and shares his stolen goods with another criminal named Sharmili.
