Inspector Vijay Verma and his wife Meera (Reema Lagoo) are the parents of Suraj. Suraj meets Kiran, a girl, one day. Unbeknownst to everyone, Kiran is the daughter of criminal ruler Balraj Khanna. Balraj has concealed his reality from both the outside world and his own daughter. In the meantime, Vijay is given the task of investigating Balraj's group. Suraj and Kiran, who are attending the same college, fall in love.
The gang members grow uneasy as Vijay delves more and deeper into the group, especially Goga (Goga Kapoor). The fact that his daughter has developed feelings for Vijay's son disturbs Balraj. Vijay also has a sneaking suspicion that Balraj is the gang boss. Thus, Vijay restricts their love after learning of his son's affair with Kiran. Suraj and his father argue about the issue. While Suraj confides in his mother, Meera shares with him a secret: Suraj is not Vijay's real son.
Meera informs him that Vijay's buddy and fellow inspector Pradeep Rawat was also his real father. When Suraj's father was slain by a goon named Ramsingh Gupti (Deep Dhillon) while on a case, Meera was pregnant. Following the death, Vijay brought Meera into his house. When word spread about Meera's personality, he eventually married her. Suraj makes the decision to find Vijay and apologise to him after discovering the truth. But Goga makes the decision to murder Vijay and gets in touch with Balraj about it. Balraj advises him to leave Vijay alone as he has chosen to turn himself in to the police and it would be foolish to do anything to him.
But, Goga disobeys the directives because he wants to seize command of the gang and puts Vijay under attack. As soon as Suraj extends his apology to Vijay, Goga's men shoot and kill him. Suraj, horrified by what has happened, resolves to hold the offenders accountable. Like Vijay, Suraj goes on to become an inspector. Suraj insists that he be put on the last case Vijay worked on since he must have been slain by the crooks there. Suraj finds Balraj's name in the file, which surprises him, and it doesn't take long to figure out what to do.
But Kiran ends their relationship because she doesn't think Suraj is telling the truth about her father...............
