KALI RIVER

The Kali River, also known as the Sharda River or Mahakali River, is a transboundary river flowing through India and Nepal. It originates from the Greater Himalayas in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India, and forms the international boundary between Nepal and India for a significant portion of its course. The river ultimately joins the Ghaghara River, which is a tributary of the Ganges River.

The Kali River has a total length of about 300 kilometers (190 miles) and has a significant drainage basin. It is known for its scenic beauty, with the river passing through deep gorges and picturesque valleys in the Himalayan region. The river is also known for its whitewater rafting and kayaking opportunities, attracting adventure enthusiasts from around the world.

The Kali River holds religious and cultural significance for the people living in the region. It is considered sacred by Hindus, and several temples and religious sites can be found along its banks. The river also supports the livelihoods of local communities through agriculture, fishing, and other economic activities.

However, the Kali River has been a subject of contention between Nepal and India due to water-sharing issues. Disputes over water distribution and construction of dams have led to tensions between the two countries. Efforts have been made to resolve these conflicts through bilateral discussions and agreements.

It's worth noting that the information provided is accurate up until my last knowledge update in September 2021. For the most current and detailed information, I recommend referring to official sources or conducting further research.
