Worst parenting advice you’ve received?
Parenting advice can be helpful, but there are times when it may be misguided, out of date, or just ineffective. The following are some instances of what can be deemed the worst parenting advice:

1. "Children should only be seen and not heard."
It is implied by this statement that the voices and opinions of kids are unimportant. It may prevent them from developing their critical thinking, self-confidence, and communication abilities. Open communication with children is essential for their intellectual and emotional development.

2. "Just toughen up, and don't coddle your child."**
While fostering resilience in children is crucial, minimising their feelings as simple "coddling" might result in emotional repression. For children to effectively learn how to manage their emotions, they require emotional support and validation.

3. "Don't spoil the child, spare the rod."**
This piece of advise promotes using physical punishment to enforce rules. Physical punishment, however, has repeatedly been linked to detrimental effects like increased aggression, decreased self-esteem, and harmed parent-child interactions, according to study.

4. Avoid overly encouraging your kids because they'll develop large egos.**
While giving praise in excess might be detrimental, withholding it completely can undermine a child's motivation and sense of self-worth. Children benefit from constructive and real praise because it fosters good behaviour and helps them feel good about themselves.

5. Don't let your child cry; you'll spoil them.  Comforting and caring responses to a child's screams are a crucial part of developing a solid bond. Neglecting a child's discomfort might result in emotions of abandonment and badly affect their development.

"You're the parent; you have to be in charge at all times."
While parents must establish limits, total control can restrict a child's autonomy and impair their capacity to take initiative, make choices, and learn from errors. It's critical to strike a healthy balance between reliance and independence.

. "Don't let your child fail; always take action to safeguard them."It may seem well-intentioned to protect kids from failure, but doing so can hinder them from growing up resilient and learning how to solve problems and deal with disappointment.

"Ignore your child's tantrums; they'll stop eventually."
Without addressing the underlying feelings, ignoring a child's tantrums can increase irritation and emotional pain. A child will frequently throw tantrums to communicate unmet demands or emotions.

Comparing your child to others will motivate them to do better."

A youngster may experience emotions of inadequacy and pressure to live up to excessive expectations if they are constantly compared to their peers. It may result in worry and a fear of failure rather than motivation.

Keep your child indoors to protect them from the outside world."
While keeping children safe is crucial, unnecessarily limiting their interactions with the outside world might impede their ability to acquire social skills, a sense of curiosity, and independence.

"Put more of an emphasis on practical skills than creative or unconventional interests for your child."
The potential for a child's personal development and self-expression can be hampered if their creative inclinations are suppressed.

"Sacrifice your own well-being for the sake of your child."
While making sacrifices for your child is part of parenting, it can be detrimental to your own physical and mental well-being. Finding a balance that also maintains your wellbeing is crucial.

"Don't ask for help; keep your child's problems and struggles private."
You may be unable to seek the help you require if you and your child are cut off from an understanding society. Getting advice from experts, friends, or support groups can be extremely
helpful.

"Your child's success is a reflection of your worth as a parent.
Tying your sense of worth to your child's accomplishments can put too much pressure on both of you.

It's important to critically evaluate parenting advice and tailor it to your child's individual needs and your own parenting style. When in doubt, consider seeking advice from trusted sources, such as pediatricians, child psychologists, or parenting books that emphasize evidence-based approaches. Remember, effective parenting is about fostering a nurturing environment that supports your child's holistic development and well-being.
