✅One of the largest flocks of painted storks (Mycteria leucocephala) have made tall trees in Veerapuram and Venkatapuram villages of Andhra Pradesh their breeding ground
✅They are currently looking after their chicks.
✅By May-end to June-end when the chicks are more than three months old, they will fly away along with adults.
● About Painted stork:
✅It is a large wading bird of the stork family.
✅These birds are widely distributed over the plains of Asia.
✅They are usually seen in the freshwater wetlands and occasionally in the coastal regions.
✅They are found in Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
✅IUCN Status: Near Threatened
● Reason for arrival of such large flock:
✅Copious amounts of rain received in the region during last monsoon has made it a favourable breeding ground for these colourful winged guests.
✅Two years of good rain has brought enough shallow water into both the village tanks
✅It has made them the right wading grounds for the painted storks, who survive on small fish, and occasionally on frogs and snakes.
