| In the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean, I would like to see Johnny Depp:Orlando Bloom |
The prospect of Johnny Depp rejoining the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise following his Hollywood cancelation has been warmly received by Orlando Bloom. With allegations of violence on both sides, Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard were involved in a string of court cases. After Depp refuted Heard's accusation, he was shunned by the film industry and fired from Fantastic Beasts, the Harry Potter prequel film series.
Now, Bloom, his former co-star, has proposed that he play the part again in upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean movies. At the Fan Expo Chicago, he discussed the potential continuation of the franchise with its original cast, saying, "I personally would love to see everybody back." "I think getting everyone back is the best approach to win that one. If everyone wanted to return, and if they could Bloom and Elizabeth Swann, played by Keira Knightley, did not appear in 2011's On Stranger Tides, but they did appear in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Dead Man's Chest (2006), At World's End (2007), and Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017).
Similar to Depp's portrayal of the erratic pirate Jack Sparrow, there had been discussions about a female-led Pirates of the Caribbean spin-off featuring Margot Robbie in a key role. After the project was shelved, there was discussion that the original series may just be carried on, as producer Jerry Bruckheimer has suggested. According to Entertainment Weekly, he had discussed with Depp the prospect of playing Jack Sparrow again, saying, "If he likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it."
Depp said last year that he felt "shunned, dumped, booted, deep-sixed, cancelled," and a return to such a global brand would put a stop to his exclusion. The issue arose from Depp and Heard's 2015 marriage, which terminated a year later. Heard said that Depp had physically mistreated her, which resulted in a Sun article calling Depp a "wife-beater." When Depp filed a lawsuit, the judge decided against him. Heard wrote a column regarding violence in their relationship in 2018, and Depp won a $15 million (£11.3 million) defamation lawsuit against her for it in 2022. Later, Depp's damages were lowered to $10.35 million, and Heard received $2 million for her counterclaim of defamation.
Depp promoted the French-language historical movie Jeanne du Barry at the 2023 Cannes film festival after that triumph. While filming his Hollywood comeback in "Day Drinker," he has also been seen with long, grey hair. In the film, he co-stars with Penelope Cruz as an enigmatic visitor to a private yacht who becomes involved with a criminal. The film's director is Marc Webb, who has helmed the box office failure Snow White, The Amazing Spider-Man, and 500 Days of Summer. Modi, Three Days on the Wing of Madness, which Depp just helmed and was based on the life of Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, was met with a lackluster review from critics.
