History of Gujarat
Gujarat, on the West Coast of India, has a rich history dating back to ancient times. It has had its fair share of maharajas and princes though it may have been slightly overshadowed by the princely splendor of neighboring Rajasthan. The excavation at Lothal shows that this region was part of a flourishing Indus valley.Formed on Mahagujarat Andolan demanded creation of state of Gujarat for Gujarati-speaking people from the bilingual Bombay state. Resulted in the formation of Gujarat and Maharashtra on 1 May 1960.

The Statue of Unity is an iconic 182 meters tall tribute to one of India's foremost statesmen and leaders - Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The Statue of Unity is an iconic 182 meter tall landmark statue dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a visionary leader and statesman hailed as the Iron Man of India, due to his pivotal role in the country's struggle for independence and subsequent integration. Post completion in 2018, the Statue of Unity will be the world's tallest statue
Statue of Unity will be able to withstand wind velocity up to 60 m/s, vibration and earthquakes
It was built within three-and-a-half years by an army of over 3,000 workers
The statue was built by Padma Bhushan recipient sculptor Ram V Sutar
Located on the Sadhu Bet island, near Rajpipla on the Narmada river, the Statue of Unity is located between the Satpura and the Vindhya mountain ranges. A 3.5 km highway will be used to connect the statue to Gujarat's Kevadia town
